Nokia announced today the establishment of a classification system energy mobile phone chargers which joined four other manufacturers. In a statement released today the Finnish manufacturer Nokia announced the participation of LG, Motorola, Samsung and Sony Ericsson to a new ranking system designed to inform users about the level of electricity consumption chargers for mobile phones. "Many consumers are not aware that chargers consume electricity when plugged into the wall socket even if the phone is not connected," says Nokia. In response to a series of measures to reduce consumption of their equipment, including requested by the European Commission, the five companies make available to users ranking energy chargers on their website, ranging from five stars for the most economical charger zero star for the shipper as greedy. "If three million people owning a mobile phone switched to a charger noted four or five stars, it could save in a year the amount of energy produced by two power plants of medium size," said Nokia's announcement.
