Produce biogas by 2009


The City of Riviere-du-Loup and the municipalities of the MRC de Rivière-du-Loup announced Monday that they join the firm Valorr Portneuf and its subsidiary Envirogaz to convert organic waste into fuel and fuel. The three entities will form a joint venture company, owned 49% by the private developer. This is the first similar project in Quebec. The construction of facilities will be completed next spring. Production will begin in the fall. The goal is to get 1.5 million liters per year of biogas. This is the fuel needed to drive 600 cars for an entire year. The three partners believe that the proposed $ 7.8 million will be profitable very quickly. The mayor of Riviere-du-Loup, Michel Morin, said that half of the investment should come from grants because it is an innovative project. The collection of organic waste to be carried out in homes, shops and industries in 12 municipalities of the MRC de Rivière-du-Loup.
